Volunteer Certifications

Gateway Council offers these certifications to Girl Scout volunteers. You can find opportunities to earn these certifications at programs and events throughout the year.

Safety Activity Checkpoints must be followed for all activities.

Archery: You can: Take your troop to any archery range, facilitate archery at a camporee or Outdoor Adventure program at Camp Kugelman or Camp Kateri.

Length of certification: 3 years
Canoe: You can: Take your troop out on the water at Camp Kugelman or lake at Camp Kateri, facilitate for a camporee or Outdoor Adventure program at Camp Kugelman or Camp Kateri.

Type of certification: Gateway Council

Length of certification: 2 years
Kayak: You can: Take your troop out on the water at Camp Kugelman or lake at Camp Kateri, facilitate for a camporee or Outdoor Adventure program at Camp Kugelman or Camp Kateri.

Type of certification: Gateway Council

Length of certification: 2 years
Sailing: You can: Take your troop out on the lake at Camp Kateri, facilitate for a camporee, an Outdoor Adventure program, or summer camp activities at Camp Kugelman or Camp Kateri.

Basic Water Rescue: You can: Be a water watcher for any activity: swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing.

Type of certification: American Red Cross

Length of certification: 3 years
Lifeguard: You can: Take your troop swimming anywhere or facilitate a swim at Camp Kugelman or Camp Kateri, for any event or summer camp.

Length of certification: 2 years
Gateway Camp Training: You can: Take your troop camping at any campground.

Type of certification: Gateway Council

Length of certification: 3 years
First Aid/CPR: You can: Facilitate for any troop trip, campout or event.

Type of certification: An Accredited CPR/First Aid provider that provides Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED with a minimum of 50% in person instruction.

Length of certification: 2 years
Wilderness First Aid/CPR: You can: Facilitate for any troop campout or wilderness hiking event, or any other event where a first aider might be needed.

Type of certification: Gateway Council

Length of certification: 2 years
Chef Training: You can: Use the commercial kitchen at Camp Kateri to cook for large events like OTEX, Aquatics, Adult Weekend or camporee, or any other event in which the dining hall is used.

Length of certification: 3 years
Kitchen Aide: You can: Assist the chef with preparation of meals and cleanliness of the dishes, utensils and facility.
